In general the + sign is kind of useless on a residential phone. It's invented for mobile phones to handle situations where the international code changes when you travel to different parts of the world. Most people don't take their residential phone with them when they travel around the world.
Due to this GigaSync translates the + sign to the international access code used at the residential location. This also offers the option to add extra digits in situations where you have to request an outside line.
